Historical Marker 1 - Cheston L. Health School

Scavenger Hunt Landmark
Our venture to this historical landmark included an on-foot search. As I walked through the structure of the Courthouse, I felt my mom mentally telling me, "Lexy, this is stupid." My mom used to work in the CCISD Administration building on that same street, and when I'd go to her work freshman year on Fridays, she'd be so cautious in the area, getting in and out of the car was a "aware team effort". I couldn't help but let those cautionary practices get to me. We reverted to Cecilia's mini van and cruised closer to the marker, where a candid constable was perched. Safely, we got out and took in the text, and selfie-d successfully.
Secretly, I wanted the constable to come out and ask us what we were doing.. I felt that what we were doing was interesting, and that he'd appreciate it. Incidentally, he did walk past us, but just gave us an odd look, and kept walking inside.
I realize how education is something that is proliferated only by efforts such as Miss Dunne and the tenacity of her pupils. If she had not poured her soul into success, and the students not shown willingness and capacity, it would've created a stereotype that people like me were not capable. I am capable, and standing in front of this marker reminds me that so is my entire heritage, and the decedents that will follow me.
