Reviews

(1) Sabrina Chapa.

I was very captivated by the importance and boldness of her topic, and the scenic presentation highlighted that. Not only is her project very significant, it is also well thoughtful of her personality. The only critique I have is the navigation of the website was a little difficult; there was much going on.

(2) Jonathan Harris

The spread of his website was clean cut and concise. The color scheme chosen and the information that went along with it complimented each other very well. I could see this sight being used for information to other's easily, and it would also easily be able to extend upon. I learned from browsing through his pages and a couple of titles made me laugh.

Fining up.

This experience has been a challenge and a joy. My website looks clear and not too busy, and hopefully is easy to understand. I hope my conclusion was conveyed.
I am not happy with my work; I have accumulated and personally understood so much information about the molding of Texas and Texas politics. Unfortunately, I don't feel like I conveyed it correctly, but I know that I gave all the effort that I could to this project. The time I spent in the library was well spent, and I will be going there very often in the future. I already have been in the Local History section for reasons outside of this project, and it has broadened my scope of understandings of the political landscape around me .

Um

Yesterday (Friday) was my first trip to the Library; it was really awesome. Although I was limited on time, I'm glad I went and experienced the process of searching. I saw Dr. Klein from Del Mar there! He was in the Local History section, and was looking at an early 20's issue of the Caller Times. He's so great. I said hello and as he stood up, I saw him sporting his "Wesley Reed for U.S. Congress" Tee shirt and Wendy Davis button! I have never had him for a class, but I seem to run into him in the community so often.

Although I didn't get everything I was looking for, I did find one document worth photocopying. I rifled through only a small portion of the filing cabinet pictured. I only found the polls for one Governor's race, and that was Preston Smith's election around 1970. I'm not sure how I'm going to find so much data when finding just this was so hard. Mainly, I had to page past and read over Corpus re-distracting coverage in the CC Caller Times.
I am going back to the library today though, and I have much more time!

For Wendy Davis' recent Birthday, my battleground Texas team and I celebrated by holding a Women for Wendy phone bank on Wednesday and block walking effort this past Saturday. Collectively, BGTX reached out to 75,000 voters in this weekend alone. It was hot, I got hased by a dog, and I was in the h00d, but it was worth it.

Spending so much time with the directors and team leaders of Corpus' main Democratic organization at Democratic HQ, I have come to understand new meanings to the ideologies that are represented by our President, and other prominent leaders. It's hands on experience in a field that I plan to go into, and report on, and I'm gaining insight to craft the main goal of my History Project: What it means to be a Democrat in Corpus Christi, WWII - present.

Historical Marker 1 - Cheston L. Health School

Scavenger Hunt Landmark
Our venture to this historical landmark included an on-foot search. As I walked through the structure of the Courthouse, I felt my mom mentally telling me, "Lexy, this is stupid." My mom used to work in the CCISD Administration building on that same street, and when I'd go to her work freshman year on Fridays, she'd be so cautious in the area, getting in and out of the car was a "aware team effort". I couldn't help but let those cautionary practices get to me. We reverted to Cecilia's mini van and cruised closer to the marker, where a candid constable was perched. Safely, we got out and took in the text, and selfie-d successfully.
Secretly, I wanted the constable to come out and ask us what we were doing.. I felt that what we were doing was interesting, and that he'd appreciate it. Incidentally, he did walk past us, but just gave us an odd look, and kept walking inside.
I realize how education is something that is proliferated only by efforts such as Miss Dunne and the tenacity of her pupils. If she had not poured her soul into success, and the students not shown willingness and capacity, it would've created a stereotype that people like me were not capable. I am capable, and standing in front of this marker reminds me that so is my entire heritage, and the decedents that will follow me.

Reason for blog; reason for anything.

An introduction
Each time I have to explain why I am doing something, or why something is, I catch myself realizing how important it is to internalize reason before committing to any task or project. I struggle sometimes with appointing reason, but with topics such as politics, I feel that it is broad enough and necessary enough, to easily appoint. Leaders make a difference. Whether they are a quality leader, or a leader that doesn't represent your beliefs, you will be impacted. The realization that you and I have an equal impact on whether or not they lead is something that I feel needs to become more popular. Plainly, these things matter. The things that the news spew out about housing markets and internet neutrality are things that can change the intimate relationship between citizen and country. This local history is aimed to analyze the past choices of Corpus citizens and how their collective community choices have molded the Corpus Christi we have today politically, and perhaps why and how that is. Ideally, this project will also boost a student body interest and care for our city's, our state's, and our country's ever-changing political landscape.
